The BWF World Championships is where players compete for the most prestigious title outside the Olympics. The 30th edition runs from 17 to 23 August 2026 at the Indira Gandhi Arena in New Delhi — the first time India has hosted the event since Hyderabad in 2009.
Tournament Overview
A total of 382 players from 64 nations compete across all five disciplines: 64 entries each in men’s and women’s singles, and 48 pairs in each of the three doubles events. It is a straight knockout draw with no group stage, seeded on the world rankings of 31 July 2026. Play starts at 09:00 IST each day, with the finals on 23 August.
Unusually for an event of this scale, the World Championships carries no prize money. What is at stake instead is ranking points — 14,500 to each winner, the highest available at any event alongside the Olympic Games.

Tickets are sold exclusively through BookMyShow across six categories, ranging from ₹499 for early-bird general access to ₹5,500 for premium seating.

Lin Dan holds the record for most titles, while players like PV Sindhu and Carolina Marin have made history here. Sindhu remains the only Indian to have won the world title, in 2019.
